online dating jewish
what to wear when going on a “date” with a jewish guy.?

i have thought of converting, but want to learn a little on my own first. the other day i met a jewish guy online and we are planning a meeting, its not really going to be a date, at least i don’t think it is.
how much of myself should i cover? (i know no cleavage showing or anything like that) is a short sleeve shirt and jeans ok, or should i wear a dress, or what?? thanks in advance!!
we will be going out to dinner.
i cant wear heels because i am too clumbsy!!

It will vary according to which type of Judaism he belongs to. Chances are that the most right wing sect eh would be is Modern orthodox as Chareidi and Chassidic Jews rarely date even within their own communities unless they are serious about looking for a wife/husband. Casual dating is not common- and dating a non-Jew would be exceptionally unlikely (it happens, but is very rare).

Given that, the next thing is: Are you going to a Kosher restaurant? if the answer is no- then the person is either not observant of Jewish law or belongs to one of the liberal sects: In this case- wear what you would to any other date, the non-observant Jew/liberal jew is pretty much assimilated into popular culture in terms of dress and behaviour so there is nothing different.

If the person is taking you to a Kosher restaurant, then they are likely to be either Modern Orthodox (MO) or Conservative. The more likely of the two is Conservative as even in MO dating non-Jews is rare and very frowned on. If the person is MO than a dress or knee length skirt is good, though dress how you feel comfortable. if the person is Conservative, only the most “conservative” of conservative communities follow the Orthodox style of dress- for most of them normal clothing is used- so dres sin your jeans or whatever is comfortable.
