Why won’t the Obamas say how much their “date” cost the American taxpayers?

Robert Gibbs declined to say what the Obamas’ date night to New York City cost taxpayers, but seemed to allow it was more than the President would have liked.
“Could he, based on the Secret Service, he would have taken the shuttle,” Gibbs said at today’s White House briefing.
But “the cost was proportionate with travel for Presidents,” he said, encouraging reporters to compare past travels of Presidents. President George W. Bush, for instance, often nipped off to his ranch in Texas — a much longer flight.
But Gibbs was pressed on whether any President before had ever done a date night-style trip on Air Force One, with no political or official function associated with the journey. He demurred.
“You’ve got, probably, more researchers than I do,” Gibbs said.
The NY Post estimated 250K for that date. It had better have been a marvelous play.
Their date would have paid off my mortgage and my cars. Funny how different some people’s lives are.
I thought he was for the little guy?
It would have been symbolic if they had rented a video and stayed home like the rest of us poor slobs who can’t afford fancy things like that and donated the 250K to a random person to pay their home off – like me! I pay my bills and I am not expecting handouts, though.
