What visa and documentation do I need? Please advise.?

I’m from Ontario and I want to go to this Christian ministry school in the States for a year. I’m 19 and living with my family. The school starts in Sept 2008 and ends in May, so it’s over the 6 month limit for a B1/B2 visa. So, how can I go?

Starting January I’ll be working and saving up everything to go, and I’ve calculated that even at minimun wage I’ll be able to save up tution, air fare and dorm room rates for the duration of the school. The cost of the dorms includes all my meals, so basically I’d be supported. (Obviously I’d apply closer to my leaving date so I could tell them exactly how much I have saved up.) Also my family back home would be able to send me money if needed. Would that count to show that I can support myself while there? And would the fact that I’m living with my family be enough to show that I have ties to Canada and I’m coming back?

But more importantly, how do I stay for the full 9 months of the school if the visas expire after 6 months?

If you are a Canadian citizen then you do not require a visa to study in the United States.

All you need to do is apply to the school, wait for your I-20, pay the SEVIS.

Then you can go to the port of entry with proof of Canadian citizenship, the I-20, SEVIS receipt and evidence that you can support yourself and pay for tuition.

Your parents can support you also but they must provide an affidavit of support and bank statements which show the amount of funds available to you.

Family ties will be enough to show your intention to return
