How tough of a time would an Indian (as in India) guy have in a liberal area?

I am just wondering, most of my high school years I spent in the deep south which is highly conservative and republican and I was able to make a lot of friends with both the Blacks and the Whites there. I am now in a liberal area (the Northeast and my god this heat is killing me) and at times some people here start acting shocked when they hear that I am Indian and my girlfriend is Puerto Rican. I often get stopped by a lot of Hispanic, White, and Asian people who know me and they ask me “I thought Indians only dated within their own race?”.

I hooked up with my girlfriend when I was down south, her family moved there from Puerto Rico and we got along well, she first thought I was Hispanic and everything. A friend of mines told me “you are lucky you didn’t do that in a liberal area or you would have been shot”.

I am just wondering, how do Indian people have it in liberal areas like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, NYC and so on?

Odd my man, I live in New England and I see Indian men with Hispanic and White women quite often. The reason you did not face so much racism down south is probably because you are more Americanized than other Indians (you have to be, how else would you end up with a Puerto Rican, your family would not permit it). The Indians who have problems in the Northeast are those who smell like curry (no offense some of you stink), have the heavy Indian accent, are usually stuck up and refuse to associate with other race groups and the heavily religious type that judge people off of skin color.

In your case, you are the Americanized type so you will have an easy time up here. I have an Indian friend that was picked on a lot in Alabama but has managed to enjoy his life up here.
